The Power Of Resurrection

  • John 10:17-18
  • 18 No one takes (my life) from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

1. Resurrection Power Is Given To You In Christ

  • Romans 8:11
  • 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.

2. Resurrection Power Can't Exist Without Death

  • Galatians 2:20
  • 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
  • Luke 9:23
  • 23Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

3. Resurrection Power Brings Real Life

  • Mark 8:35-36
  • 35 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?

The Power Of Giving - Open The Door

But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving. 2 Corinthians 8:7

Generosity (def.) Readiness or liberality in giving. Freedom from meanness or smallness of mind or character.

When it comes to generosity to God, we have two options.

(Option 1): Live on 90% of my income that God will bless and multiply, (Option 2): Live on 100% of my income that God does not bless and does not multiply.

1) Open the Door to the promises of God.

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.

Malachi 3:10-12

Four promises:

(a) I will open the floodgates of heaven

(b) I will pour out much blessing

(c) I will protect your possessions

(d) I will bring delight to your home.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38

Life Lesson: Your faith in God results in your eternal life in heaven. Your obedience to God results in the best of God’s blessings on earth.

2) Open the Door to greater potential.

Question: Would you rather live on 90% of your income that is not blessed by God or would you rather live on 100% of your income that is not blessed by God?

Life Lesson: Don’t worry about yesterday’s missed opportunities, get ready for today’s opportunities.

3) Open the Door to the Power of God.

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint[a] of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.[b]” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

John 12:1-8

Mary opened the door to the power of God.

Judas kept that door shut. Two different people. Two different results. Have you opened the door to the power of God in your life?

What do you need to do to open the door to the blessings and favor of God?

The Power Series - Giving is Living

  • Matthew 6:31-34 (MSG)
  • 31 What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
  • 34 Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

1. I Will Allow God To Work In The Uncomfortable Areas Of My Life

2. I Will Treasure God's Kingdom Over Mine

  • Matthew 6:31-34 (MSG)
  • 19–21 “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.
  • 24 “You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and Money both.

3. I Will Learn How To Be Content In Every Circumstance

  • Matthew 6:25-33 (MSG)
  • 25–26 “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.
  • 27–29 “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.
  • 30–33 “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?

4. I Will Always See God As More Than Enough

  • Matthew 6:31-34 (MSG)
  • 31-33 What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
  • 34 “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

The Power Of Prayer - PRAY BIG!

The Power of Prayer

Mark 9:17-29NIV

17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.” 19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” 20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. 21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” 23 “ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” 25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” 26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up. 28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” 29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”

1. Pray BIG, Not Small

Matthew 7:7NIV

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

2. Pray BOLD, Not Timid

3. Pray with BELIEF, Not Unbelief

Matthew 21:22NIV

22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Mark 9:17-29NIV

The Power Of Influence

Matthew 5:14-17 NIV

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.  17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

People Have Influence On You

You Have Influence On Others

Your Testimony Has Influence

John 4:7-9 NIV

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”  (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)  The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

John 4:28-30 NIV

28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people,  29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?”  30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

John 4:39-42 NIV

39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”  40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days.  41 And because of his words many more became believers. 42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
